Have you ever seen a real-life sea monster? In September 2019, an extraordinary video emerged from China, showing footage of a massive and unusual sea creature swimming through the water. The footage was captured from a bridge, and it reveals a clear view of a creature with a serpent-like body, reminiscent of the mythical Chinese dragons. Although the exact identity of the creature is uncertain, the video has left many wondering about the possibility of such creatures existing in our oceans.

Where was the footage of the sea monster filmed?

A video was recorded near the city of Yichang in western Hubei province, close to the Three Gorges Dam, showcasing an unusual and remarkable sight.

The video has garnered more than six million views and hundreds of thousands of likes since being shared initially by the popular Pear Video. It has since been reposted on Tik Tok.

It shows what appears to be a massive eel or snake wriggling along the surface of the water. In the footage, locals are seen observing the creature from the shoreline, and social media users have also been captivated by the mysterious creature.

Many have taken to posting about it using the hashtag #ThreeGorgesMonsterPhotos, and experts have started to share their opinions on what the creature could be.

What could the Sea Monster Spotted in China Be?

There are varying opinions as to what this strange creature caught on camera could be could be.

Some suggest it might be a type of whip kelp, but its movements seem too deliberate and purposeful for that.

Another possibility that has been put forward is the oarfish, which matches the physical description of the creature, but it's highly unlikely for these deep-sea fish to survive on the surface.

Some believe that the creature is more likely to be a Chinese alligator, also known as the "muddy dragon". The Chinese alligator is often attributed to be the base of the eastern dragon mythology, and it seems like a feasible explanation for what is seen in the video.

During an interview with Pear Video, Professor Wang Chunfang from the Huazhong Agricultural University refuted the notion that the creature was a new species, stating that it was probably just a regular "water snake."

While some users suggested that factors like pollution could contribute to a sea snake reaching an unusually large size, not everyone was convinced by this explanation.
